Founder & Teacher: Miss Sujitha Uthayakumar [Ma'am]
WELCOME Greetings! Welcome to SAEC. My name is Suji and I am the Founder and Teacher at Saras Academy [SAEC] and a third-generation teacher within my family.
I have had the honour and privilege of teaching students of primary, junior and intermediate/secondary levels in urban and rural schools in Hamilton and Mississauga, as well as, through online courses and collaborations with Ontario colleges. I am currently an active member of the Ontario College of Teachers with a Bachelor's degree in Education from University of Toronto-Ontario Institute for Studies in Education [OISE]. |
visionIn 2004, with the encouragement of my deceased grandmother and first generation teacher, Saraswathi (Saras), I began and pursued Saras Academy as a full-time After-School Academy. Our vision was to increase student motivation by inspiring and teaching students mathematics in a fun, understandable and applicable way.
In the early years of teaching mathematics, I realized that students were struggling to comprehend word problems, and instructions. To add, students had gaps in orally communicating strategies. This was when I began to incorporate and teach Language Arts in the academy ( grades 1-8 and English 9-12). |
sARAS ACADEMIC EDUCATION CENTRE (SAEC)
SAEC is recognized for its unique teaching methods ~ I believe in discovery and inquiry based math teaching that allows students to become discoverers themselves. In addition to engaging activities, there are formal lessons and levels that the children will explore and learn. However, the basic foundation and fluency in operational skills is also significantly emphasized and strengthened.
Our English sessions are also so much fun! I strive to incorporate Reading, Oral and Writing in every session. Depending on the grade level, we do A.P.E, P.P.E, C.O.P.S. mini books made by students [Capitals-Organization-Punctuation-Spelling], read alouds, guided reading, grammar, spelling, novel studies, literature circles, EQAO booklets, Readers Notebook, Essay Writers Notebook. The lessons are uniquely created for each class - respective to the level and gaps of the class.
