Campaign Goal: To help Free The Children provide a permanent source of clean drinking water for 100 000 people in the world.
Our SAEC Goal:
To provide at least 1 person with a permanent source of clean drinking water by collecting 2500 pennies.
How will we be achieving this?
We will be starting our 'Coin War' which is a friendly competition; in which SAEC students are all divided into
two groups: Grades 1-6 and Grades 7-12.
Rules:
(1) The first two weeks students bring in pennies for the campaign
(2) For the third week, every student is allowed to bring in one silver coin which will be used as a way of "trying to
gain a higher point/score." These coins will be put inside another bag beside the opposing group's penny bag. The value of the silver coin will be subtracted from that groups overall penny count.
How will the silver coins benefit the cause?
Since The We Create Change campaign is aligned with the penny going out of circulation in Canada, only pennies can go in the penny bags. So the collected silver coins will be directly donated to "Free the Children."
Facts:
- Every day, women around the world spend a cumulative total of 200 million hours collecting water for their families
- Every 20 seconds, a child dies from a water related illness (water.org
- 780 million people around the world do not have access to clean water. That is approximately 25 times the number of people living in the whole of Canada. (water.org)
- 3.4 million people die each year from water related diseases (water.org).
- 8 out of 10 illnesses in developing countries are linked to unclean water and sanitation
